1. Poker Face – Lady GaGa
Although “Poker Face” was featured in last years 2008 Top 10 List, it made its way into 2009 without loosing any steam. The Red One produced track been nominated for Grammy Awards in the categories for Song of The Year, Record of The Year, and Best Dance Recording on December 2, 2009. Poised to bed the biggest song of all time “Poker Face” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 11th, 2009 and also occupied the American Top 40 for 8 weeks in a row.
2. I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
The 2nd single from the Peas’ album “The E.N.D.” was the go to party song of the real. Produced by House French DJ David Guetta, “I Gotta Feeling” had you anticipating your night out with friends, “cuz tonight’s gonna be a good night” the lyrics say. "I Gotta Feeling" was the group's highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number two. "I Gotta Feeling" had remained Number 1 on the Hot 100 for fourteen weeks, extending the band's run at number one on the Hot 100 to twenty-six consecutive weeks, or half a year straight.
3. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – Beyonce
Having become a phenomenon in late 2008, “Single Ladies” carried over into 2009 and is nominated for 3 Grammys including Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. This managed to peak at #1 on Billboards Hot 100 and is featured at #50 in Rolling Stones Top 100 Songs of the Decade. “Single Ladies” also grew into a massive YouTube phenomenon with many people creating their own mock videos.
4. When Love Takes Over – David Guetta Ft. Kelly Rowland
The song became the hit of summer 2009 in all of Europe, produced by French DJ/producer David Guetta “When Love Takes Over” featured full vocals from American R&B singer Kelly Rowland. Althought the song failed to pass the top 50 on the U.S. charts, house music heads knew all about it and had it playing everywhere but then again U.S. charts don’t decide the world’s music. The song has so far peaked at number 1 in 10 countries.
5. Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
"Use Somebody" is the second single from Only by the Night, the fourth studio album by Kings of Leon. This track is nominated 4 Grammys including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song. This track had everyone singing their souls out when ever this track was played on the radio which was practically everyday. It has peaked at #4 on the Hot 100, giving the band their first top five hit there. On U.S. radio, the song was a multi-format smash, becoming just the fourth song in history to top the Mainstream Top 40, Adult Top 40, Alternative Songs, and Triple A charts. As well “Use Somebody” was a huge club hit with many remixes.
6. I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) – Pitbull
The 2nd single from his album “Rebelution”, “I Know You Want Me” is the rappers biggest single to date. Not only was it the U.S. song of the summer the track peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S and reached #1 on French charts. This song undoubtedly had you moving and shacking on the dance floor all night long.
7. Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas
This is easily the most recognizable song of 2009. The 1st single from the Black Eyed Peas’ album “The E.N.D.” was a #1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit and was named 7th on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Decade. The track held onto the #1 spot for 12 consecutive weeks only to be dethroned by their 2nd single “I Gotta Feeling’ which appears at #2 on this chart. The song sold over 4,295,000 digital downloads in the U.S, becoming the group's highest-selling song in the U.S. to date.
8. Right Round – Flo Rida
This was the 1st single of Flo Rida’s debut album “The R.O.O.T.S.” and is the 2nds #1 single for the rapper. In its third chart week, issue dated February 19, 2009, it jumped fifty-seven positions to the top spot. The song samples Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” and has been a proven commercial success.
9. Day N’ Nite – Kid Cudi vs Crookers
Have gained more success then the original version The Crookers Remix has proven to be a world wide dance hit. This was definitely played in every club across the world this past year.
10. Paparazzi – Lady GaGa
“Paparazzi” was the last and final single from Lady GaGa’s debut album “The Fame”. The single reached #1 on CHR/POP and allowed Lady GaGa to become the 4th female this decade to have four #1 Pop singles off a debut album. Lady GaGa’s performance of “Paparazzi” at this past year’s MTV Music Awards proved to be one of the most memorable performances the award show has scene in a long time.
